What the Beginning and Advancing Aquarist Absolutely Needs to Know and Do When Starting An Aquarium

  Organic Herbals
for external bacterial or single-celled infections (protozoans, dinoflagellates, fungus)

Organic herbals are a relatively new category.  While they require daily doses, their big advantages are that they do not require water changes during use;  they are less stressful to the fishes than chemical treatments;  they do not harm invertebrates in the aquarium or pond.  .  Organic herbals are removed by activated carbon, so when this material is used in water filters, it should be removed during treatments.

For new aquariums a good start would be to use Kordon Prevent Ich™ or Kordon Ich Attack™ or Kordon Rid Fungus™ as a daily treatment for the first weeks.  These organic herbal medications are safe to use with invertebrates (coral reef animals, snails, shrimp, etc., and in the case of Xenia coral and bubble coral see cautions under the product descriptions), and do not require water changes during use.  Any one of them will serve as a good prophylactic against a broad range of diseases developing while the fishes are becoming adjusted to their new surroundings, as well as in treating prevalent infections by protozoa (such as white spot Ich Ichthiophthirius), dinoflagellates (such as Amyloodinium), and fungi (such as Saprolegnia).
